Online voter registration now available in Pennsylvania!
October 5th is the last day you can register to vote for the 2015 general election on November 3rd.
This year, for the 1st time, the state is allowing residents to register to vote online. If you have never registered to vote before, its now easier then ever.
Simply go to Pennsylvania Online Voter Registration Application and fill out the appropriate information. To have your application completely processed online you will need to have either a PA driver’s license or a PennDOT ID. If you do not have either of these you may still use the online application, but you will have to submit your signature by mail to complete the registration process.
For more information about the online voting registration please review the following FAQ.
The state has created a video guide on how to register to vote online, the video is below:
Congratulations, your now registered to vote, so now what?
Your application will be sent to the Dauphin county voter registration office. They will contact you if more information is needed to approve your application. Once your registration is approved, the voter registration office will mail a voter registration card to your residence.
As a first time registered voter you will need to have and know the following things to vote on November 3rd.
Voter ID
First time voters are required in PA to show some form of ID when they first vote. The state accepts many forms of ID including utility bills, paychecks, bank statements or government checks. For a complete list of valid forms of ID on election day review this page.
Know Your Polling Place
Steelton has 6 polling places in which residents may vote at, but you can only vote at one. Your polling place is based on you home address. The state provides an online tool to let you know which polling place you need to go to on voting day.
Know How To Vote
You made it this far now its time to know what to expect on election day. Once you have arrived at your poling place you will be greeted by the polling attendants. They will ask your name and verify that you are on their roster and at the right polling place. As this is your first time voting they will ask for a valid ID that we talked about above.
Once a voting booth is available they will direct you into the booth. If you have any questions feel free to ask the attendants, they are there to help.
Below is a very old guide to using the voting booths in dauphin county. Its not the best but should help you get an idea of what to expect when in the booth.
