Vote_small_resizedThe 2015 primary election for Steelton Borough council is quickly approaching. This year 4 borough council seats are up for grabs and we have a large field of candidates trying to fill these seats.

The current available seats on council are currently held by Michael Albert (running), Steve Shaver (running), Denae House (not running), and MaryJo Szada (not running). There are a total of 9 candidates running for 4 council seats, but only 8 will make it to the general election in November.

In a primary election the voter gets to narrow their party’s field of candidates to determine who they would like to be on the general election ballot in November. You are only allowed to vote for members in the party you are registered as, and only allowed to vote for a maximum of four candidates.

Both the Democratic and Republican parties can be represented by 4 candidates in the November general election. This year there are 4 Democratic candidates, of these 4 all of them should move on the general election in November. In the Republican Party there are 5 candidates. Of these 5, only 4 will be moving on to the general election in November.

The main focus in this year’s primary elections will be on the Republican Party as one of the candidates will be voted off the November ballot. So let’s take a look at these candidates. Pennlive.com did a candidate survey and I have linked to the results below. (Names are listed in order of ballot location)

Republican Party candidates

Democratic Party candidates

(Pennlive only did a survey on candidates who were in races that were contested. No surveys have been performed on the Democratic Party candidates)

  • Keontay R. Hodge
  • Michael A. Segina
  • Kelly S. Kratzer
  • Sharon Salov

While the primary elections are not as thrilling as the general election, 5 candidates on Tuesday are looking to represent the Republican Party in November. Each of these 5 need your vote.

I hope that the voter turnout for this primary is as active as the number of candidates seeking office.

Every vote counts so make sure you take the time on Tuesday to vote.

I will be updating election results on this website Tuesday evening as the election polls are counted.
