With the economy finally emerging from the recession, we need to look forward to engaging business and investors to come to Steelton.  It is my understanding that prior to the recession, quite a few investors were actively interested in our town. With the economic downturn behind us, we need to re-attract new investors and business that will grow our community’s general tax base while providing local employment for the residence.

I feel that Front Street in Steelton is a prime location with the traffic that passes through daily to have a thriving business district. Our convenient location provides easy access to Harrisburg, Interstate 83, Interstate 76, and Interstate 283.

One of the aspects of the “New Steelton” plan addressed to make this happen was to provide ample parking for travelers to stop  and patronize local businesses.

I believe the “New Steelton” was an aggressive and bold plan that just so happened at the wrong time, but we need bold and aggressive plans to reshape our future. I would like to see the plan resurrected and more actively pursued. The original plan should be reviewed to assess if any changes or any new aspects should be addressed in the years that have pasted in its original conception.

A single project or a select area of revitalization is a start to what can be a larger revitalization of the entire community. Bringing in more tax revenue and local employment will benefit both the borough’s bottom line as well as the citizens.  The renewed economic success will show fresh outside business and investors that they can make it in Steelton, spurring additional interest, development, jobs and tax revenue.
