Some of our borough’s infrastructure is as old as the town itself (135 years). This includes roads, water mains, sewer lines, catch basins, and sidewalks.

We need to find and utilize grants whenever possible to be proactive in our approach of dealing with our ailing infrastructure and not reactive.  While the situation of a tax increase was not ideal, moving forward with the Pine Street project will save the residents in the long run as PennDOT has assumed a sizable amount of the cost to perform the work.

Moving forward, we need to make sure we have a complete list of in danger infrastructure and plan ahead to tackle revamping or replacing before we are forced to increase taxes. Although this may not always be the case, if we plan ahead and make smart and informed decisions, I feel we can make strides in updating Steelton’s infrastructure in an effective and cost efficient manner.
